Heat Whore

We always joked that Sake was a “heat whore.” As in she is only interested in your lap if she is cold. I think she just validated our nickname for her. Sorry the photos aren’t the best–I had to move quick–she didn’t want this documented.

And yes, the heater was on full blast, high heat.

Peace,

Katy ^_^

I’m not gonna lie. I took all of the photos in about a 2 minute span–except Sake’s cuteness which occurred about a week ago. The past few weeks have been a rush of visitors and holidays and I don’t think to take my camera out until after the fact. Sorry. Add that to my giddiness about skipping church today. No reason why, I just did it. I guess I get a bit “churched out” too.

Here’s Sake. She’s laying on a pillow my mom made. It says, “Dear Santa, Define Good.” So cute.

Here’s what I’ve been working on lately. PJ pants, and a baby kimono. I was so excited to see Stitch had come out. I was first exposed to Quilting Arts in Long Beach. But, I’m beginning to be really disappointed by their new magazine. First U N I F O R M Studios mentioned an error in her skirt pattern. And I haven’t seen it correct on the Stitch site yet! Then, when I worked on the kimono, besides having instructions that confused me–a pretty advanced sewer, I’m quite sure there was mis-information in the diagrams provided. It not only frustrated me, but I could see a beginner throwing their hands up and saying this is “too hard.” I don’t want someone to be frustrated by little things like that. Please, Stitch, make use of people to try out your patterns. I’d do it myself.

Here’s my babies with Scotch modeling his Santa hat. He isn’t sure of it yet.

Here’s our Christmas decorations. The tree is still on the ground, though I am tempted to hang it up-side-down from the hooks already in the ceiling.

And the mantel is decorated with a green boa. I’d like to say that was my plan all along, but actually the boa was thrown in the Christmas decoration box as we packed to move, and I just set it on the mantel jokingly. And it looks quite cute. :)

And only the kitties have a stocking. It was a gift from our upstairs neighbor and her dog, Junior last year. Scotch had the biggest crush on Junior. If Scotch got out, he’d run upstairs and roll around outside of their door. Also, when Scotch would hear them heading out for a walk, he’d run to the window to watch them. Silly cat. :)

I hope your holiday seasons have started out Merrily. Here’s to more frequent posting!

Peace,

Katy ^_^

Here’s my drafting images for now. I’m a bit worried. I’m thinking the front should have larger dart than the back, but none of my resources are helping much. Too bad I’ve gained 2-3 inches since I drafted something 4 years ago. Arg..

Here are the kitties. We didn’t get another one, they are just sleeping next to a similarly colored teddy bear.

Something I found. There’s a birthday to celebrate this week. And, I may need to break into it before then!

I had to clear these off before I started. Do I have too many needles? They were out from my wisemen sewing stint.

Lastly, here is some eye candy for skirt ideas. Thanks, for the tip, Jill. It is fun to see fellow bloggers getting featured in these kinds of publications.

Peace,

^_^

Life

Life happens. Right now I feel frozen as everything is zooming past me. I’m not sure what is paralyzing me at the moment, but daylight savings time is not helping. Except I wake up a little easier. It is possible Eric’s leukemia is no longer responding to the drug he is on. We’re waiting for test results. And waiting sucks. Here’s some photos from the past few days. Here’s Scotch taking up lots of space on the bathroom counter.

Decisions to be made about graduate school. And for things like this, I’m a terrible decision maker. Never fully satisfied and always asking “what-if…”

And here’s the kitties this morning. I think maybe I should turn on the heat. The photo doesn’t do the desperation in their postures justice.

Skip over to AfricanKelli’s to see the prize she one from the blog-i-versary contest ages ago.

Peace,

Katy ^_^

Happy Halloween!

This is what happens when you don’t have kids. The kitty “grandparents” send gifts for the kitties. Sake is terrified of hers–it looks the same. It is the size of her.

Here’s Scotch.

Peace,

The Winner

Here’s the video, enjoy. If you have any complaints you can send them to Sake.

**Updated ridiculously early on Sunday morning. So I waited, and waited, and waited. YouTube’s processing time is taking forever. Until that link works, here is the unglamourized link. The video is the same…**

***Upate 2- much later.. Looks like the way I exported the video it was a screenshot only. So user error–not You Tube error. ***

It should be processed soon. :)

Congrats, Kelli! Shoot me an e-mail and let me know what you’d like. Perhaps something Frida inspired?

Peace,

Katy

I got these sunflowers last week while shopping at Trader Joes. They are the easiest flowers to take care of. They’re still gorgeous!

I’ve been cleaning today. We had Eric’s college friends staying with us last week. They both just got jobs in the area so we were housing them while they found an apartment. Scotch loved the visitors, Sake hid in the bedroom whenever they were around. We tried to keep cat hair to a minimum, but there is only so much that can be done. Sorry, Meredith, if it was too much. You were a great sport about it!

My mom arrives tomorrow afternoon. I’m giddy like a kid high on candy. It is her first visit to California since we’ve become Californians. I can’t wait to show her our digs and the area. So the air mattresses are being relocated. One will go to the study for my mom, the other will be deflated and stored. Until then, the cat’s have decided to play “fort.” It is pretty ridiculous.

Here’s Sake.

Here’s Scotch.

I realize I’ve become that crazy cat lady, but I’ve come to terms with it. :) Meanwhile, in the study I’ve almost finished scrap booking my trips to Paris. This was the summer of 02 and 03. Seems like 5 or 6 years later is a good time to start, right?

I finally checked with the community college about how to get registered for classes. I would like to take some draping, fitting, and possibly some business classes. Seems like I’ve got a bit of waiting to do. You see, classes would currently cost $204 per credit hour plus any fees and materials. But if I wait until I’ve been here a year and a day, they will only cost $20 per credit hour plus any fees. It is worth waiting. In the meantime, I will be honing the skills I have learned and have let get a bit rusty. Flat-pattern work.

School is going well. The kids never cease to amaze and humor me. I love third graders’ enthusiasm for everything.

Peace,

Katy ^_^

We moved in. Here is Eric eating mac and cheese on our dresser. We had to use measuring cups because the silverware was still packed.

Sake wasn’t too sure about our new place yet and used the dresser as a fort. She’d hide under it and peek out every once in a while. She’s settled in nicely now though. Silly cat.

Peace,

Katy

Sorry for the sparse posting. I did the tri! I even ran the entire 5 miles at the end and despite crazy wind, not hydrating on the bike and massive hills, I only fell over once and had to only walk up three inclines. I have a lake swim (race distance 1500m or more) tomorrow and am planning a long ride (22-35) miles Sunday.

So I have two cats. Two cats that have become my children–I am totally “one of those people”. I love my cats because whenever they choose to sit in my lap for a scratch, I know they really want to be there.

We’re a little disappointed with our Scotch right now. He has the smelliest number two’s ever. We’ve told him again and again, if you do it, you have to light a match afterwards. But he doesn’t even try. Probably a good thing with his track record with candles. His tail hair has been trimmed because it hovered a little too close.

Sake is so darn cute because she will start purring if you look at her. It has almost become a game to see if you can catch her not purring. We’ve been unsuccessful so far.

Scotch has the habit of “crying” his little pathetic meow when we turn off the tv or sneeze. You don’t believe me? Watch this.

Anywho, where I’m really going with this is, have you ever seen a cat smell something stinky? Generally a dirty sock or similar item? They smell it, then they raise their head with a half-open mouth. Total disgust is on their face. It is so absurd, but at the same time you start to feel bad that you smell that gross. You almost want to apologize. Then you realize it is a cat. As Eric likes to say, they lick their own butts and should be treated accordingly.

I’m still a cat lover. They are too quirky, loving, faithful, and down-right funny!

Peace,

Katy ^_^

We did laundry yesterday and we didn’t lose a sock. We didn’t even gain a sock! Since we use a laundromat–this is monumental. Here’s Scotch with the proof.
