Alabama Chanin

I blogged about the Slow Life last week. Turns out I wasn’t just interested in the slow life, I am looking for ways to implement it my own life as well.

Alabama Chanin is offering 4 weekend workshops a year. I applied to be considered for a scholarship for the one in March. Yesterday, they announced I was one of the winners.

I am super-excited. I keep re-reading the e-mail just to make sure I didn’t mis-interpret what they were saying. They chose me along with 5 other very talented and inspiring people to participate. There are the briefest bios on the Alabama Chanin blog. Originally, they were only going to offer two scholarship positions. They said they received many outstanding applications so they decided to offer six instead. I feel really honored and look forward to the experience and community.

Peace,

Holy moly! How exciting is that. Super cool! And I’d never heard of that Alabama Chanin before, but wowie. Sounds right up my alley!
So, any tips on how not to gulp down my food? I am the fastest eater and it is a difficult habit to change. I’d love to hear what you think.

    Kelli:
I wish I could help you out. I too inhale my food. Two ideas come to mind.
    1. In Full House, the dad always has the girls chew their food 25 times (I think) so they don’t choke. That maybe an option.
    2. I am thinking of a movie, but my searches have come up with nothing. I assume it is a chick flick. They are sharing take out on the balcony of one of the character’s apartments and he says she is hogging the food. She responds by saying something along the lines that “It’s the immigrant hunch. My dad always said we did it because when we came over to America there was hardly enough food. So it is now in our biology….” Does anyone know what movie this is?? If this is the case–maybe we are doomed. :)

Both are really good to keep in mind. I had a friend tell me once that I should try to put down my fork between each bite. That works too. And it really embarrassed me.
